These are all works by Nathan Cole, done by hand using a metal quill on scratchboard. It is a masonite panel, covered in porcelain and india ink, then scratched away with the quill until the white appears underneath the ink. It is a meticulous process, as you cannot make a mistake or plan it out … More Scratchboard Etching
A place to show all my animal photography that wasn’t encountered in the wild (to see those lists, please check out my photography tab). I have been tracking every species of wildlife I encounter in the wild since August 2019, so I decided to expand that to include every kind of animal I photograph at all. Not only does it give a venue to display these shots I enjoy, but it is also an incredible avenue for learning more about these species and how they are related. … More Collected Animal Photography: Domestic or Captive
A listing of all wild species I have encountered in New Zealand, listed by their taxonomy categories of Class, Family, and Species (except Invertebrates, it will be a bit different). This was a visit in 2014 when I had older equipment and before I was prioritizing animal photos, so the photos aren’t quite up to … More Travels in New Zealand: Species Encountered in Nature (with photos)
A listing of all wild species I have encountered in Australia, listed by their taxonomy categories of Class, Family, and Species. A personal photographic account of my month-long travels in Rajasthan, India in February 2020. Most of the sightings were within 5km of my stay at the Farm Studio artist residency in Andore. However, there would also be sightings included from Jaipur, Ranthambore National Park, Ranakpur, Kumbalgarh, Jawai Bandh, and Sirohi. I am self-trained in wildlife photography and identification, so I have done the best I can as of yet, but please feel free to point out corrections if you notice a naming mistake.
All photographs except one (of the leopard) were taken by me. All explorations and discoveries were on foot, with the exception of a canter tour through Ranthambore park. Any animals listed without photographs I was able to identify but unable to get a shot of them.
All animals were free and wild. … More Travels in India: Species Encountered in the Wild
The beach at Santa Monica is large, flat, and long. Palm trees, playgrounds, and restaurants are interspersed in the landscape, but the Santa Monica Pier rises above the water as a monolith among the sand. It draws people in with its lights, sound, and size. With it being the epicentre of excitement on the beach, it would be counter-intuitive to expect much of anything to happen in its looming shadow.
But there I was, swimming near the base of its gigantic, stilt-like legs, where something beautiful happened. … More Under the Santa Monica Pier, a flash memoir
The first time I remember being really good at something is when I began drawing. I was a decent runner, pretty good at soccer, a decent chess player – but I was better at drawing. Even as a child, animals were one of my fascinations. My reading habits included Ranger Rick (a kids environmental magazine), … More A Year of Living as an Artist – 2019 in Review
The most asked question I receive at art fairs is, how are the scratchboard portraits made? Well, I buy the boards premade at art shops; it is called Ampersand Scratchbord. It is masonite board coated with white clay and black India ink, you use metal tools to scratch away the surface ink to show the white clay underneath. … More How My Scratchboard Portraits are Made

Economy The policies of Doug Ford and Andrew Scheer’s proposed ones echo that of Trump, cut basic services while giving wealthy people and corporations cuts, they are just more underhanded and subtle. They have learned from his playbook, distract with rhetoric while cutting out the floor beneath everyone. Scheer has proposed many cuts, yet, like … More Canadian Election 2019: Points on the Economy, Immigration, the Environment, and more.
